Elevated, Respectful Inquiries
Charles Krauthammer’s recent article appearing in the Jerusalem Post is an excellent treatise on the “elevated, respectful” inquiries which will begin to take place this week when the House Judiciary Committee meets to “grill” Sonia Sotomayor on her principles. Sure to be highlighted will be the Ricci case and the “wise Latina woman” statement, as well as the abortion issue. Don’t expect any firm answers from Sotomayor; typically Justice candidates are incredibly expert at dodging pointed questions. Still, Krauthammer makes a good case for taking “empathy” out of judicial decisions and just plain ol’ stickin’ to the law as written. Russian newspaper Pravda supplies us with an opinion piece entitled, “American Capitalism Gone With a Whimper”, in which the opening sentence is, “It must be said, that like the breaking of a great dam, the American decent into Marxism is happening with breath taking speed, against the back drop of a passive, hapless sheeple, excuse me dear reader, I meant people.” For more, go here: http://english.pravda.ru/opinion/columnists/107459-0/
It’s 2012 and campaign time again. . Something which has an ending in 2012 must have a beginning; and it’s beginning in Iowa right now. Only 3 years to go until the presidential primary precinct caucuses begin and the whirl-wind touring ends. Already Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee, Nevada Senator John Ensign and Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour are visiting. Oh, it’s not to campaign; Nosireebob. It’s to help the locals with fund-raisers and such. But, of course, “It’s a smoke screen.” For more, go here: http://www.newsmax.com/politics/us_nonstop_campaigning/2009/05/31/219851.html?utm_medium=RSS
On a positive note: A sports player who’s played for 23 years? Forty-six year old Jamie Moyer, pitcher for the Philadelphia Phillies, won his 250th game Sunday against the Washington Nationals. I can only imagine the intensive physical conditioning which he must undertake to stay competitively physically fit with the younger players. Caps off to you, Jamie!
Blessings.
