Three Amigos

Posted by Alan Stanley on Aug 10, 2009 in August '09

As we all are aware, President Philipe Calderon of Mexico, Prime Minister Stephen Harper of Canada, and Prez O are meeting in Guadalajara, Mexico to discuss several key issues created by shared borders. This cute headline in the BBC News: “’Three Amigos’ Summit in Mexico”. Let’s hope that the three presidents don’t emulate “The Three Amigos”, Steve Martin, Chevy Chase and Martin Short”. Puh-lease!

OK, so you tho’t Town Hall Meetings were supposed to be two-way communication, right? Not particularly so. For Prez O’s NH town hall meeting tomorrow, the WH has issued the tickets for entrance. This assures that the hall will be filled with Obama-starry-eyed-zombies and that the questions will be scripted. The WH is attempting to prevent the “disruptive” mob-like attacks other elected officials are experiencing in their home districts. Ain’t gonna happen entirely. A group called the New Hampshire Republican Volunteer Coalition will be outside the hall with a number of recruits attempting to get their viewpoints heard. I’m eager to see/hear what will happen.

When one is not immersed in a foreign culture, one cannot really know how to think about their news. For example, Russia has both a President and a Prime Minister, similar to Israel and other nations, while the USofA sports only a President. The Agence France-Presse reports that President Dmitry Medvedev blames Russia’s economic infrastructure itself for their economic slowdown, and is encouraging making decisions to change the structure of their economy, while Prime Minister Vladimir Putin blames the global economic slowdown. I think that they both are correct. But, I’m only a far-removed observer.

On this day in history: 1846 – Smithsonian Institution created; 1981 – Pete Rose sets national League hitting record.

On a positive note: Physician-geneticist Dr. Francis S. Collins, noted for his discoveries of disease genes, has been appointed to be the Director of National Institutes of Health. Widely known for his 2007 best-seller “The Language of God: A Scientist Presents Evidence for Belief”, and lesser known for receiving the Presidential Medal of Freedom, Dr. Collins is an un-apologetic  Christian and believer that God created the universe and all that is in it.

Blessings.
