Bizarro World Politics
By most accounts, the Health Care Bill is nearing passage in the House; perhaps this week. Health Care Patron Saint and Senator Teddy Kennedy would have been proud. My question is whether Teddy would have voted straight Party line, or would have disapproved of the despicable sham and ultimate disrespect for the ethical and moral principles of parliamentary procedure which his fellow Dems are effecting on this Health Care Bill.
Bizarro World Speaker Pelosi is jerry-rigging the vote by NOT having a vote. Huh? Pelosi reportedly told liberal bloggers Monday that “nobody wants to vote for the Senate bill,” and so she’s strongly considering the non-vote vote. What is THAT?! Yep. Bizarro World. Seems like there is a legal, tho’ morally and ethically wrong, way to get around actually voting on the bill by voting on the package of changes, effectively “deeming” the Senate bill passed, thus allowing the Dems to NOT vote on the Bill. What happened to “Up or Down”?
Representative Paul Ryan R-WI wrote an opinion piece for the Washington Times wherein he labels the current Dems push to pass the Bill as a “convoluted legislative charade”. “The architecture is designed to give the government greater control over what kind of insurance is available, how much health care is enough and which treatments are worth paying for.” Control. Control. Control. I don’t like it, I don’t want it, I’m not going down peacefully.
I went to the website which has the 2309 page Senate Bill and began to read. I’m only thru the first 100 pages or so, but already I see validation of the medical panel which will establish broad definitions of care. This presumes to be the “death panel” which conservatives are bemoaning and which the liberals are saying isn’t. I report, you decide. Thousands are expected at a Tea Party rally today in Washington. Where are they rallying? At the Dems offices on Capitol Hill. Hah! If you don’t want to go to the people (town hall meetings), the people will come to you! I love it! Speaker Pelosi sent a memo to the Dems outlining how to handle the rally members, including providing water and other snacks. Her checklist of talking points about the Bill includes, “”Reduces the deficit; Cracks down on Medicare waste, fraud, and abuse; Provides historic tax credit for small businesses and individuals to purchase health insurance.” My question is how any Dem could actually believe that a Tea Partier would respond, “Why thank you, Congressperson, for explaining that to me in such clear terms; now I’ll change my mind.” As Prez G. Bush woulda said, “It ain’t gonna happen, Saddam!”

On a positive note: Don’t discount the intelligence, vision and drive of young people. James Madison, born this day in 1751, was only 26 years old when he signed the Declaration of Independence and was a mere 37 years old when he “fathered” the Constitution. He then went on to be the 4th Prez of We the People. Pictures of the early fathers are mostly of wise ol’ guys (not ol’ wise guys), but that’s not how they were when they “rebelled” against jolly ol’ England. Thank you, founding fathers, for your wisdom, insight, perseverance and courage in the face of adversity. We are grateful. May we continue your vision for America.
Blessings.
