Vice President’s Day

Posted by Alan Stanley on Feb 15, 2010 in February '10

HAPPY VALEN ….. oh, wait ….. that was yesterday, eh? Well, then ….. Happy President’s Day! Even tho’ I’m not a government institution, I’m taking the day off. Oh, I guess I didn’t take the day off if I’m writing. Oh well. So much for holidays.

What’s catching my eye today?

Altho’ today is President’s day for our Nation, yesterday was Vice President’s Day on Face the Nation.

The arrogance of the current administration both amazes and apalls me. Bob Schieffer, CBS News journalist of Face the Nation interviewed Vice President Joe Biden on Sunday. BOB SCHIEFFER: Let me ask you this, Mister Vice President, you said the other night to Larry King in an interview that you thought Iraq could be one of the “great achievements” of this administration. And I must say a lot of people, when you said that, said their response was “what?” JOE BIDEN: Look, we’re not, we’re not taking credit, we had to take responsibility. BOB SCHIEFFER: Do you think also that George Bush would also need a little thanks for that? I mean, does he share in the credit or not? JOE BIDEN: Well, sure. I’m happy to thank George Bush. I like George Bush, but I think, if you go back and think about it we’ve been on so many of your programs, it was constantly, what is their political plan? Sheesh!

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton says the Obama administration is now considering Iran as becoming a military state operated by the Revolutionary Guard. The Guard is insidiously creeping into every facet of Iran’s Islamic Republic, including the nuclear program. I’m guessing that the Ayatollah is behind this while playing Ahmadinejad as the leader. Just guessing. I’m wondering how you “play nice” with military dictatorships?

Planned Parenthood and others raised an incredible flap against the Tim Tebow/Focus on the Family Superbowl adds before they were aired. After the airing, because the ads were so subtle, yet pointed, in their message, the only thing they could muster to rail about is that Tim tackled mom, reflecting an subliminal message of condoning violence against women. Really! I say again that those who are seeking the most tolerance for themselves demonstrate the least tolerance for those who have opposing viewpoints. They use loud and frequent voices to promote their weak messages. Folks, we of the We the People constitutionalists need to take a play from their book — speak loudly and frequently of the founding fathers’ intentional design of our Constitution.

On this day in history:1893 - Duryea Brothers begin first auto production line; 1903 - :Teddy” bears first offered for sale honoring the then President; 1942 - Japanese continue aggression with taking of British Singapore fortress

(I’m wondering what stuffed animal someone would conjure up for Prez O.)

On a positive note: Austrian millionaire Karl Rabeder is giving all his money away; all $4.7 mn. “For a long time I believed that more wealth and luxury automatically meant more happiness,” Rabeder said. “I realized how horrible, soulless and without feeling the five-star lifestyle is.” He’s packing up to live in a mountain hut. Well, to each his own, but altho’ I agree with his wealth epiphany, I’d still opt for a small cottage within civilization and give the rest away. Regardless, good on you Karl!

Blessings.
