Happy New Year!

No, really.

Nothing trite. Not a cliche’. Not trivial. Not thoughtlessly given.

May our (We the People) 2010 continue to bring peace, protection and a renewed prosperity to our beloved USofA.

Pray, whatever your religious beliefs (except for atheistic views for which there is no one to whom to pray … sad),  for our Prez, for our congressional leaders, for our congressional parties, for our neighbors. Pray that they would each and all seek Divine guidance for their thoughts and actions … and listen when it comes. Pray that they will truly represent what their constituents are wanting and not the things which they want and which they are imposing on their constituents.

Then, take up your figurative swords, be they letters, phone calls, faxes, personal visits, whatever, and become actively involved in the welfare of your nation. We’ve been too long a nation of receivers, receiving freedom to live and think as we choose, and too willing to let others be the “activists”. As a result, the few are influencing the many. My senior high school principle, Mr. Marion Jones, said once that when he made school rules he was aware that he shouldn’t make a rule for the 3% which affected the other 97%. How wise he was.

In our nation today, the few (marriage reformists, health care reformists, financial reformists, alternate life style reformists, the global warming reformists, etc.) are the few, but we are allowing them to affect Us, The Many, We the People. It’s just not right. The silent majority needs to vocal up! We can no longer expect “business as usual” to take care of our country. WE must wake up and make it “business as UN-usual” by taking active interest in our mutual welfare. (Oops, sorry about that choice of word.)

So, get off your cushy, comfy couches and GET BUSY! Get involved! Get some satisfaction from the fact that YOU had a part in effecting change in our government. You’ll be so glad you did!

On this day in history: 1879 - Edison demonstrates the electric light bulb; 1947 - Roy Rogers and Dale Evans marry; 1999 - USofA turns over Panama Canal to the Panamanians

On a positive note: Doris and Margaret Wiles married their sweethearts, Lawrence and Clarence, in a double wedding in 1939. This past September, all four celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary together. Wow! The two couples have collectively lived 377 years. Another wow!

Blessings.
