No Contstitutional Authority
Obamacare; Pelosicare; Health Care Bill – no matter what you call it, we the people are being ripped off under the guise of getting what’s good for us. There is no Constitutional authority for the government to tell us that we must have a formal health care plan. There is no constitutional authority for the government to tell us that we must eat broccoli, but that is in the works. (No, that’s not in the House Bill, but it’ll happen someday, none-the-less.) There is no constitutional authority for the government to tell us how we must nurture our children to be healthy, but that’s in the plan. There is no constitutional authority for the government to appoint one person (the Czar) to tell us what medical treatments must be given first, last or not at all; but that’s a part of the bill. There’s no constitutional authority for the government to take away the Medicare Advantage plans which allow medical choice, but the Bill will eliminate these programs.
There is no constitutional authority to impose penalties for persons who choose to have an informal health care plan. Taxes will be higher for health care; services will be more scarce as doctors bow out of accepting patients who rely on the government health dole because the re-imbursements will not be enough to sustain service. The Bill is not good for Americans.
So, who’s it good for? The elected officials who will boast of the control which they exert over the nation. The American people will not win.
Yes, I can say “the American people” will not win, just as a vote of 220-215 is being proclaimed as “the American people speaking”. Hogwash.
There were a number of backroom deals which helped the legislation to pass.
- The AMA gets forgiveness for the accumulating 5% annual reductions in their payment for services; not at 21% and counting
- AARP gets the Medicare Supplement business when the Medicare Advantage program (now being used by 20% of seniors) goes away
- The pharmaceutical industry gets a ten year/ $80bn limit on drug cost reduction plus Canadian drugs will continue to be banned
- The Stupak Amendment, which eliminates the use of government funds for abortions, was a good news/bad news amendment; the bad news is it was a carrot to get some of the blue dogs and others off the spot and to vote “yes” on the Bill
There is much work to be done. The Senate and Mr. Harry Reid now have the responsibility to sort out the House and Senate versions of Health Care Reform and to make all facets and nuances into one passable bill. Government-managed, single payor, health coverage is looming, folks.
I do not want government to tell me what to do. I want them to protect me from what others can do to me. (Including terrorism, but another time.) So far, under the Dem-controlled Congress, they aren’t giving me what I want. I can tie my own shoes, thank you. If I want to wear shoes, thank you. Don’t tell me what to do, thank you.
On this day in history: 1938 – Krystallnacht portends the Nazi assault on German Jews known as the Holocaust; 1923 - Bavarian leaders renounced their support of Hitler and the Nazis, leading to Hitler’s arrest on the 13th; 1965 - the American power grid takes a huge hit in the Northeast, affecting 8 states, Ontario and Quebec provinces; 1989 - Berlin opens The Wall
On a positive note: An 18-yr-old, Colton Morman, has been elected mayor of Dawson, Iowa, having received 53.7% of the vote against the nearest challenger with 38.8% of the vote. Morman is following in his grandfather’s footsteps as former mayor. It took only 29 votes to win. So what? Good on you, Colton!
Blessings.
