Mass Transit
What’s catching my eye today:
Will We the People of Massachusetts transition from Dem to Rep? Does anyone not know about the MA Senate race? Brown vs. Coakley. Brown vs. Prez O. Brown vs. the Dems. Brown vs. America. Protestants vs. Catholics. WHAT??? MSNBC’s Chris Mathews threw that in for good measure. And, the Dems have a “hurry up” strategy beyond their current closed door, get it done before the State of the Union Address strategy. Whatever. IF the Bill ever gets to the confirmation point - IF - there are Supreme Court challenges waiting in the wings.
Is it just me, or is everyone perturbed by the special concessions being given in order to get the Bill passed? Louisana, Nebraska, the Unions … there is no shame in exercising power, it seems. Never listen to theĀ polls, I understand. Polls generally serve the person who pays for the poll, since they are looking for bias in the poll-takers in order to support whatever premise they have. But … almost every poll today says that We the People are not wanting the Bill and are disgusted with Prez O and the sitting Congress. They are feeding their ideological egos while spending our money on subjects which they are presuming are good for us, whether we like it or not.
If we use the same rules for passing legislation as we do for elections, then the Health Care Bill wouldn’t pass today by several points.
BTW, how presumptious of Coakley and Prez O to intricately tie their ideologies with the great Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Coakley said at a breakfast today “I’m running for the United States Senate because Dr. King’s work is unfinished; his dream is unrealized. Tomorrow we act on the dream and we make sure that we allow me to continue that work,” Coakley said. Incredible! Prez O said yesterday, as guest speaker at Vermont Avenue Baptist Church in D.C., to a predominantly black congregation properly gave Dr. King credit for preparing the way for the opportunity for Prez O to become Prez, but also, regarding the Bill, “This will be a victory not for Democrats; this will be a victory for dignity and decency, for our common humanity.” He is a master at matching his speech and delivery to his audience, but, am I not dignified and decent if I oppose the Bill? Sheesh!
BTW, Iran is formally considering to cut ties with the UK. What chuzpah! What blindness! What ego! And we think having a tea party will solve the nuclear situation in Iran. What are we thinking?
On this day in history:1778 - Cook discovers Hawaii; 1969 - Heavy rains in California kill nearly 100
On a positive note: Having junk in your trunk is better than having a spare tire. I’m talkin’ ’bout your bod. Recent studies indicate that, although belly fat is an indicator of premature death, having a big butt is actually beneficial. So, what about the few of us who have neither? Guess we’ll take our chances. For more, go here: http://www.gnn.com/article/health-benefits-found-for-fat-fannies/858729
