Special Olympics Day

Good News/Bad News/Good News: House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Charlie Rangel (D-NY) yesterday introduced H.R. 735, nick-named the “Rangel Rule”, which would allow any US of A taxpayer to avoid penalties and interest on underpayment of income taxes due. The bad news is this resolution was borne of Rangel’s failure to pay income taxes on a property he owns; he has not been penalized or charged interest on the back taxes due.  The good news is this H.R. 735 is supported by many groups, including Americans for Tax Reform. What’s good for the goose is good for the gander, eh?

How can this guy sleep at night? Dr. George Tiller of Kansas has been on trial for, and has escaped incarceration for, performing illegal late-term abortions – 19 counts. And, that number is only what was mentioned in court. And, this after several previous attempts to prosecute also failed. Operation Rescue issued a statement of “disappointment” over the verdict “on behalf of the pre-born children wrongly killed” by the Doc, and vowed “to press on in their quest to stop Doctor Tiller from continuing” [his killing spree]. Folks, get up-in-arms with your Congresspersons to stop the carnage!

Ok, so … many of the Gitmo detainees – terrorists – are being released , and some into the US of A, right? The AP quotes Baitullah Mehsud, leader of Pakistan’s Taliban – terrorists - , as saying, “Soon we will launch an attack in Washington that will amaze everyone in the world.” This statement came after taking credit for the recent Police Acadamy bombing leaving at least eight policemen dead. And, our own recent experience should be enough to deter us from releasing more Gitmo detainees: after releasing one of the detainees previously, he went back to become the #2 in Osama Bin Laden’s army. What are we thinking?

On a positive note: Today is Special Olympics’ “Spread the Word to End the Word” day. What word? The “r” word – “retard”. You may be like me, having used the word in my youth as a slur when “poking fun” at your BBF’s behavior, not understanding the harm such a statement could and would do to a person with genuine disabilities. Or, as Prez O’s innocent quip about himself on the Jay Leno Tonight show. We can change. Go to www.r-word.org for info on how you can take part.

Blessings.
